KwaZulu-Natal is bordered by the warm Indian Ocean to the east and the high escarpment of the Drakensberg Mountains to the west. The province has a warm, sub-tropical climate. Summers are hot and humid averaging 27 degrees Celsius, while Winters, which are dry and clear, average 23 degrees Celsius. Snow often falls in the higher regions in Winter and the Winter sunshine averages almost 7 hours a day, making it some of the highest in the country.

The currency is the South African Rand (ZAR).
